MINNEAPOLIS–At the Health Ingredients Europe (HIE) show, Cargill (www.cargill.com) won the Gold Award for its Xtend™ isomaltulose, a slowly-digestible sugar that provides sustained energy supply, retards the glycemic response and extends satiety. Xtend isomaltulose could be used in low-glycemic products including cereals and energy bars, meal replacements, dairy drinks, yogurt, fruit preparations, and children’s and sports beverages. The HIE judges also noted Xtend’s inability to be fermented by oral bacteria, making the product an option for tooth-friendly confectionary.
