WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.Resveratrol supplements are increasingly popular for their potential anti-aging and antioxidant properties. A new report from ConsumerLab.com found the majority of resveratrol supplements it tested met label claims and were free of contaminants, including heavy metals. However, the organization did find one supplement contained only 2 mg of resveratrol per capsule, another failed disintegration testing and a third was not appropriately labeled. It added the cost of the products varied greatly, with the cost to obtain 100 mg of resveratrol from the products that passed testing to range from $0.06 to $3.

ConsumerLab includes the names of companies involved in the reviews in its general news releases, but doesnt indicate which ones passed or failed testing, nor the levels of active ingredients in the products. However, the reports with complete findings are available for purchase from ConsumerLab.

The report on resveratrol supplements, provides findings for the 10 supplements randomly selected for testing and seven additional products that passed the same testing under ConsumerLab.coms Voluntary Certification Program, whereby companies can pay to have their products tested by ConsumerLab. Results are also included about a supplement that is similar to one that passed testing but is sold under a different brand. The report further details cost comparisons, dosage information, an explanation of the trans- and cis- forms of resveratrol, and quality ratings of the supplements.
