BALTIMORE--At the annual conference for the American College of SportsMedicine (www.acsm.org) based here, researchers presented findings that Clif Bar energy bars maysustain and moderately increase blood sugar levels. Conducted by the HumanPerformance Laboratory at St. Cloud State University, the study's lead author,John Seifert, reported that the bars moderately increased blood glucose for 30to 40 minutes after consumption, with levels remaining steady for 90 minutesafterward. In comparison, when volunteers drank a glucose control beverage, blood sugar levels rose rapidly then plummeted to 9 percent below baseline, apoint where a sugar crash or hypoglycemic reaction may occur.
