KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii—Gerald R. Cysewski, Ph.D., Cyanotech’s president and chief executive officer (CEO), will present a brief summary of the body’s inflammatory response, including diseases that can result from excessive or prolonged inflammation. The unique structure and functional properties of astaxanthin will be reviewed, as well as the production of astaxanthin by microalgae. The anti-inflammatory mechanisms and properties of astaxanthin will be discussed, followed by a review of results from human clinical trials that used astaxanthin to address inflammatory conditions.
