KAISERAUGST, SwitzerlandRoyal DSM, a global science company specializing in health and nutrition products, was granted permission from the European Commission for the use of  zeaxanthin in supplements. This approval allows the distribution of DSM's zeaxanthin brand, OPTISHARP,to many markets across the EU.

Along with lutein, health professionals reported that  zeaxanthin is found to be essential in eye heath. Zeaxanthn is located in the sensitive area of the retina that controls central vision and it is known to be a main component of the macular pigment within the human macula. OPTISHARP is currently used as an ingredient in various supplements worldwide, and it is recommended that 2-mg dose be taken per day with DSM's lutein FloraGlo.

DSM's OPTISHARP was also approved by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) back in October 2012.
