DuPont Protein Technologies Expands Applications,Operations
ST. LOUIS--At the IFT Food Expo, held in Anaheim,Calif., June 16 to 19, DuPont Protein Technologies announced it added enhancedflavor technology and technical application expertise to its Solae brand soyprotein. "Based on market indicators, there are tremendous opportunitiesfor great-tasting, mainstream foods enhanced with soy protein," said JeffTeague, director of the company's consumer food and nutrition segment."Working in collaboration with food marketers, we provide new technologiesthat maximize these options. Our example of our technical innovation is a new,high-protein nugget we recently introduced. Our new nugget offers bar and snackmarketers tremendous formulation flexibility to achieve the targeted proteinlevels and to deliver the crunch and taste that consumers crave."
At IFT, DuPont Protein Technologies showcased new food andbeverage concepts for Solae (www.solae.com),including a milk chocolate pudding, a peach-flavored carbonated beverage,ready-to-drink fruit beverages and a raspberry yogurt energy bar. In addition,Belinda H. Jenks, Ph.D., FACN, director of the company's novel health benefitssegment, gave a presentation at the show discussing the benefits of soy proteinfor heart health, women's health, bone health, weight management and cancerprevention.
In related company news, DuPont announced the expansion of itsDuPont Protein Technologies business in the People's Republic of China toproduce and market soy protein for mainstream consumer foods. The announcementincluded a letter of intent to form a joint venture with the Henan LuoheShineway Industry Group Co. Ltd. and a cooperative agreement with the Zhengzhougovernment to establish the DuPont Zhengzhou Protein Co. Ltd. in Zhengzhou, alsolocated in Henan Province. Under the letter of intent, the two businesses planto build a new, innovative facility in Luohe to manufacture soy protein.
