FOSTER CITY, Calif.GCI Nutrients launched standardized Irvingia gabonensis seed and pulp powder extracts for inclusion in healthy weight management products. Irvingia gabonensis is the botanical name for a tree found in West and Central Africa that is also called African Mango. The fruit of the African Mango has been consumed for centuries in West African countries and the seeds have been used for their health benefits. Extracts from the Irvingia gabonensis seed have been shown to be effective as a weight management supplement. Irvingia may have the ability to produce weight management results from the favorable changes in the production of the following hormones in the body: Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) gamma, leptin and adiponectin. Leptin has been found to act as an appetite suppressant and may also help increase metabolism. Adiponectin may curb appetite and cause the burning of body fat. PPAR gamma has been found to play a role in weight reduction and regulation of fat mass.
