CHICAGOA mangosteen juice supplement (as Mango-xan® Antioxidant Recovery Formula, from Pure Fruit Technologies) was found in a recent study to contain higher levels of alpha-mangostin compared to similar products on the market. Researchers looked at several leading beverages containing mangosteen pericarp and pericarp extracts to determine the range of xanthone concentrations, as measured by alpha-mangostin content. A high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis of Mango-xan revealed a concentration of 266 mcg alpha-mangostin/mL, while several other mangosteen juices contained alpha-mangostin in the ranges of 10 to 238 mcg/mL; no alpha-mangostin could be detected in one brand.

The unpublished study, A survey of alpha-mangostin content of commercial mangosteen beverages, was presented at the American Chemical Societys 233rd National Meeting and Exposition in Chicago in March 2007. According to Wayne Geilman, Ph.D., senior research scientist for Pure Fruit Technologies (www.purefruitttechnologies.com): The study also reveals that the key antioxidants found in the mangosteen fruit and pericarp are retained during the formulation and processing of Mango-xan.
