When the purified blue light laser strikes the palm of thehand, it is slightly shifted toward a green light due to the chemical makeup ofthe carotenoid antioxidant molecules. When a persons antioxidant levels are measured, the amountof reflected green light is gathered and assessed to produce a numeric reading,the Skin Carotenoid Score. This number correlates with levels ofcarotenoids in the diet, blood and tissues.
