IRVINE, Calif.pTeroPure brand manager Jeremy Bartos, Ph.D., will present a VendorWorks series on high-purity resveratrol and pterostilbene for use in dietary supplements and functional foods at SupplySide West 2010 in Las Vegas. Bartos will discuss pterostilbene, a natural derivative of resveratrol found in small berries such as blueberries and grapes in a presentation entitled, Pterostilbene, the next generation resveratrol", on Friday, Oct.22, 2:30 p.m. at VendorWorks stage #10068 in The Venetian & The Sands Expo. The presentation will also focus on the synergism of resveratrol and pterostilbene, and how addition of pterostilbene to existing resveratrol products may enhance their efficacy.

According to pTeroPure, ptereostilbene functions as like resveratrol an antioxidant and an anti-aging agent and has been shown to help lower cholesterol and blood glucose levels. Unlike resveratrol, the company stated, pterostilbene has greatly improved oral adsorption and metabolizes more slowly in the body, allowing more time for its antioxidant activities to take place.

Pterostilbene has the potential to be one of the most significant new ingredients the dietary supplement field has seen in a long time," said Frank L. Jaksch Jr., co-founder and CEO of ChromaDex, which owns pTeroPure. The science behind the use of pterostilbene as a resveratrol alternative or resveratrol enhancer is sound, and with the advent of the first human clinical study on pterostilbene and our upcoming self-affirmed GRAS study, we expect pterostilbene to quickly spread beyond the dietary supplement industry and into functional foods, beverages and cosmetics."

pTeroPure was founded as a high-quality raw materials division of ChromaDex as a result of its exclusive worldwide patent rights for pterostilbene based on the technology licensed from the University of Mississippi and USDA. In additional to high-purity all-trans pterostilbene and resveratrol, pTeroPure also offers premium curcumin, black currant extract, sclareolide, and caffeic acid phenylester (CAPE).

ChromaDex develops phytochemical and botanical reference standards and creates associated intellectual property. According to the company, it is committed to sustainable "green chemistry" and provides the dietary supplement, food, beverage, nutraceutical and cosmetic industries with the novel ingredients, analytical tools and services to meet product regulatory, quality, efficacy and safety standards.
