CHICAGOStevia producer PureCircle released plans to commercialize its high purity Reb D, which has received self-affirmed GRAS (generally recognized as safe) status. According to the company, Reb D has one of the best sweetness profiles of any steviol glycoside from the stevia leaf, allowing formulators to sweeten products with little to no calories.

Utilizing its vertically integrated supply chain, PureCircle has spent more than a decade of research and development to commercialize the new Reb D. It is currently collaborating with multiple companies to introduce the product to the United States. PureCircle has also submitted its GRAS notification to FDA.

On Nov. 31, the company received final approval from Health Canada authorizing stevia's use in foods and beverages in Canada. PureCircle also earned U.S. patent protection for its new commercially cultivated stevia leaf in August.
