MINNEANAPOLIS, Minn.A new study published in the British Journal of Nutrition, shows the amla fruit (Emblica officinalis) has numerous healthful properties including effectiveness as an anticoagulant and anti-inflammatory agent (Br J Nutr. 2013 Jun 7:1-6).

According to the study, Amla is a glossy green fruit with a distinctive astringent taste that grows in wild tropical forests of India and subtropical and tropical areas of China and Myanmar. It contains complex properties including more antioxidant activity than blueberries, 20 times more vitamin c than lemon juice, 30 times more polyphenols than red wine and more gallic acid than any other fruit.

Recent research determined amla's nutrient blend may have positive influences ranging from metabolic syndrome, blood flow to anti-aging processes.

Japanese researchers tested the fruit by evaluating its effect on human endothelial cells and in rat models. They found amla fruit extract significantly inhibited the biological responses that can lead to inflammation and blood clots.

Taiyo, a company that developed SunAmla, a family of amla products, created a consumer education and awareness programs to increase the public's understanding of the nutritional benefits of super fruits including amla.
