Hip foodies are tripping out on Synsepalum dulcificum.

But, rather than altering their consciousness, the culinarily curious are altering their taste buds by eating this cranberry-colored, almond-shaped, essentially flavorless berry. Native to West Africa, Synsepalum dulcificum, also known as miracle fruit, makes sour foods taste sweet for up to 30 minutes after it is eaten.

CNN reports on taste tripping parties and the miracle fruit that is gaining interest not only for noveltys sake, but also for possible use with cancer patients whose taste buds have been dulled by chemotherapy.
