VansInternational Foods Acquires Veat

TORRANCE,Calif.--Vans International Foods, maker of natural frozen waffles, announcedthat it closed a deal Oct. 3 to acquire Veat Gourmet, a maker of soy proteinmeat analogs; the purchase price was not disclosed. The investment group KCAFoods LLC, which acquired Vans in January 2000, funded the Veat acquisition.

Accordingto Jim Kelly, president and CEO of Vans and a partner in KCA, the acquisitionfits with the companys strategy to build brands in the industry that fit itsgeographic profile. Veats products will be marketed and shipped from VansLos Angeles-area frozen foods plant. Kelly added that the company is activelylooking for additional acquisitions, though it had nothing to report at thistime.
