FAIRFIELD, N.J.—A&B Ingredients unveiled PisaneR B9, the latest addition to its pea protein offerings, at SupplySide West in Las Vegas.

The new pea protein isolate was created to meet growing needs of manufacturers of high-protein baked goods, including protein bars, granola bars, bread products and extruded crisps.

“Market reports continue to show that the growth in nutrition products are far outpacing overall food and drinks spending," said A&B Ingredients managing partner Gil Bakal. “The addition of Pisane B9 to the A&B Ingredients family of natural products is a welcome one for those manufacturers seeking specific nutritional needs in their baked products for use in senior nutrition, sports nutrition, weight management, as well as their gluten-free products."

Bakal noted that Pisane B9 pea protein isolate is a viable alternative protein source containing high levels of branched chain amino acids—leucine, isoleucine, valine—as well as arginine and lysine. A non-genetically modified (GMO) pea protein isolate, Pisane has 98-percent digestibility and a well-balanced amino acid profile, containing 88 to 90-percent protein. It is both gluten-free and exhibits low incidents of allergens.

Pisane is derived from the yellow pea through a gentle extraction process without using organic solvents, according to Bakal. The lysine content of pea protein helps with the building of muscle protein, which is required for growth and bone development. Pea protein has also proven to be one of the most tolerated and accepted protein sources without labeling or high-allergy issues.

In July, A&B Ingredients and Imagilin Technology LLC announced a new line of probioticsPA5051—based on Pediococcus acidilactici.
