3 Types of Cheese Recalled Over Listeria Fears

WASHINGTONEl Ranchero Del Sur LLC, based in South River, N.J., is recalling three types of cheese because they may be contaminated with Listeria, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced. The cheeses were sold to supermarkets and restaurants in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

The recall involves Queso Fresco El Ranchero Del Sur (Fresh Cheese) with UPC 88052230013 and Queso Fresco en Hoja De Platano Los Corrales (Fresh Cheese in Banana Leaf) with UPC 880522300037 packaged in 14-ounce plastic clamshell; and Queso Hebra Queso Oaxaca El Ranchero Del Sur (String Cheese) packaged in a 14-ounce shrink wrap with UPC 880522300068 and 10-pound plastic loose wrap with UPC 88522300051.

The cheese was distributed from Feb. 23, 2012 through March 14, 2012. El Ranchero Del Sur has ceased the production and distribution of these products and is working with the FDA on the investigation.
