AHPA Reviews NCCAM Grants
January 24, 2013
SILVER SPRING, Md.American Herbal Products Association's (AHPA) chief science officer, Steven Dentali, Ph.D., served as an expert for National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) research grants. Dentali, an expert on botanical quality, was a first-level reviewer for grant proposals submitted to the Centers of Excellence for Research on Complementary Alternative Medicine (CAM) Program.
"Research drives CAM understanding and new product development," Dentali said. "It's an honor to serve on an National Institute of Health Special Emphasis Panel as an expert for the evaluation of proposed research involving botanicals and natural products."
NCCAM, the government's agency for scientific research in alternative medicine, supports research centers such as CAM. Every year, the program funds three or four research projects. As a first-level reviewer, Dentali analyzed and gave recommendations for this year's proposals; NCCAM's advisory board will determine which projects to fund.
