Baked Foods, Cereal Gain in Consumer Price Index

WASHINGTONAccording to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Consumer Price Index for baked foods and cereals rose 0.4% in May, while the index for all food at home rose another 0.1% after rising 0.1% in April and 0.2% in March.

As reported by Baking Business, the May index for cereals and bakery products before seasonal adjustment was 251.3% of the 1982-84 average, down 0.6% from a year ago. For all food at home, the May index was 215.8, up 0.3% from May 2009. The CPI for cereals and cereal products in May was 218.3, down 0.2% from April and down 1.7% from May 2009. The price index for bakery products in May was 268.9, up 0.6% from April 2009.
