EAGAN, Minn.—Biothera’s yeast beta-glucans are now self-affirmed GRAS (generally recognized as safe) after a review by an independent panel of medical and toxicology experts of scientific and manufacturing process data on WGP 3-6 and BetaRight 3-6. Biothera plans to file GRAS notification with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
According to Richard Mueller, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Biothera (www.biothera.com), GRAS affirmation positions the ingredients to expand into new markets and products. He noted, “Achieving GRAS status for our ingredients is an important milestone in the commercialization of our products in the functional food and nutrition marketplace.”
