Botulism Fears Spur Nationwide Recall of Pickled Beets

WASHINGTONLakeside Foods Inc., a Manitowoc, Wis., firm, announced a nationwide recall of 3,000 cases of 105-ounce canned pickled sliced beets because they were underprocessed and may contain Clostridium botulinum, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced March 21.

The recalled products were sold under the Bountiful Harvest, Code Elite, Comsource Medal, Lakeside, Monarch, Nugget Black, Restaurant Pride and Sysco Classic labels. The pickled beets were distributed in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
