CFH Seeks 25K Signatures for NDI Draft Guidance Withdrawal

WASHINGTONCitizens for Health (CFH) aims to collect 25,000 signatures by Feb. 25 calling for Congress to withhold FDA appropriations until the agency withdraws the New Dietary Ingredient (NDI) Draft Guidance.

In November 2011, CFH set and achieved a goal to collect 10,000 signatures in 10 days calling for the withdrawal of the NDI Draft Guidance. Currently, CFH has collected close to 19,000 signatures.

CFH Representatives Jim Turner and James Gormley met with top aides from 11 U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate offices on December 22, dropping off the petition along with the 12,686 signatures the organization collected at that point.

In a blog post, Gormley said CFH received, "the warmest reception at the offices of Congressman Darrell Issa (CA) and Congressman Ron Paul MD (TX)" and, "we look forward to working with a number of Congressional movers-and-shakers to push for a withdrawal of this misguided Guidance."

CFH has been calling for the withdrawal of the NDI Draft Guidance since Sept. 13.
