Chicken of the Sea Added To Canned Tuna Recall

WASHINGTONTri-Union Seafoods LLC is expanding its nationwide recall of Chicken of the Sea canned tuna fish products because they may have loose seals or seams that could result in product contamination by spoilage organisms or pathogens, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced March 8.

Todays recall involves a limited amount of Chicken of the Sea brand 5-ounce chunk light tuna in oil. The new recall is in addition to the limited amount of Chicken of the Sea brand 5-ounce chunk white albacore tuna in water announced March 6.

The recalled products include single cans of Chicken of the Sea Brand 5-ounce chunk light tuna in oil sold between Jan. 23 and March 6, 2013, with UPC code 0 48000 00195 5 and a best by date of Jan. 15, 2017; and single cans of Chicken of the Sea 5-Ounce Chunk White Albacore Tuna in water sold between Feb. 4 and Feb. 27, 2013, with UPC code 0 48000 03355 0 and a best by date of Jan. 18, 2017.

On March 6, Bumble Bee Foods LLC announced a recall of specific codes of its 5-ounce Chunk White Albacore and Chunk Light Tuna products due to the same problem. On March 7, the company expanded its recall to include more lots of canned tuna fish.
