Codex Standard for Fish Oils Sought

In an effort to establish a Codex Standard for Fish Oils, a group of stakeholders has established an Informal Industry Work Group (IIWG). In the first of its Communication Papers, the group outlines its objectives as follows:

·        Seek consensus among Industry on the structure and content of a standard for Fish Oils.

·        Refine a proposed draft for submission to next CCFO session.

·        Manage stakeholders expectations and help steer through the Codex process.

Throughout the process, IIWG will be soliciting comments from industry. In this first communication, it asks for input regarding the types of fish-oil products currently on the market.

The goal of the IIWG is to achieve a consensus early enough for the final adoption of the standard by the Codex Alimentarius Commission in 2013.
