ATLANTACP Kelco will invest $8 million to expand its Lille Skensved, Denmark, pectin facility to meet the increasing market demand for GENU® LMA pectin (amidated pectin). The investment comes on the heels of a $4.5 million investment in same facility in November 2009. The company anticipates the project to be completed by June 2011.

This investment enables CP Kelco to continue meeting the growing demand for high-quality GENU LMA pectin, said Don Rubright, president of CP Kelco.

Amidated pectin, is produced from the peel of citrus fruits and is widely used in the food industry for products such as low-sugar and sugar-free jams and fruit spreads, fruit preparations for yogurt, thermo-reversible bakery glazes and ice cream variegates. It continues to show good market growth due to its functionality in fruit and yogurt products, especially in jams and fruit spreads with a low-sugar and high-fruit content.

CP Kelco's product lines include pectin, xanthan gum, carrageenan, cellulose gum, locust bean gum, gellan gum, microparticulated whey protein concentrate and other novel biopolymers.
