WASHINGTONHallmark Fisheries, a Charleston, Ore., firm, is recalling several packaged crab meat products because they might be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced Sept. 16. The products were distributed to foodservice companies primarily in California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.

The recalled crab meat was sold under the Hallmark, Peacock, Quality Ocean International and Yaquina Bay brands that were packaged in 5-pound can, 1-pound vacuum packs, 1-pound plastic tubs and 8-ounce plastic tubs.

The recall was initiated as a result of a routine testing program by Hallmark Fisheries that revealed the presence of Listeria in the finished products. The company has ceased the production of crab at the Charleston facility as it continues an investigation as to what caused the problem.
