CRN Int'l Elects New Board Members

MANNO, SWITZERLANDThe Council for Responsible Nutrition-International (CRN-I) elected new members to its board at the group's annual meeting in Washington DC in March. John Venardos, Herbalife Ltd., has been elected chairman;  Tyler Whitehead, Nu Skin Enterprises, Inc., vice chairman; David Morrison, The Vitamin Shoppe,  secretary; Carl Hastings, Reliv International, Inc., treasurer; and Mark LeDoux, Natural Alternatives International, immediate past chairman. The new officers will serve a two-year term.

Formed in February 2010 to provide science-based information to regulators, healthcare professionals and the media, particularly those outside the United States, CRN-I supports the safety and benefit of dietary ingredients and dietary/food supplements, and promotes sound nutrition and food safety policies well grounded in science. Membership is open to all manufacturers, marketers and distributors of dietary supplements and ingredients. Current CRN-I funders include: Abbott Nutrition; DSM Nutritional Products; Herbalife Ltd.; Lonza, Inc.; Natural Alternatives International, Inc.; NBTY, Inc.; NSA, the maker of Juice Plus+®; Nu Skin Enterprises, Inc.; Pharmavite, LLC; Reliv International, Inc.; and The Vitamin Shoppe.

CRN-I has held two scientific symposiums that have brought together international regulators with the scientific community to address issues relevant to international policy.  Its third one-day scientific symposiumNutrient Reference Values for Bioactives: New Approacheswill take placeDec. 1 this year in Germany, prior to the Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses (CCNFSDU) meeting. A fourth CRN-I symposium is being planned for 2013.
