Cyvex Black Currant Goes GRAS
January 29, 2013
IRVINE, Calif.Cyvex Nutrition has achieved self-affirmed GRAS (generally recognized as safe) status for its Euro Black Currant extract, after successfully completing an intense review of safety and toxicology data by an independent panel of qualified experts. As such, the extract is now safe for use in an array of functional foods and beverages.
The dark-colored black currant extract is standardized to 25 percent anthocyanins and contains numerous vitamins, minerals and other nutrients, and it has a high ORAC value, according to Cyvex.
"With this GRAS designation, manufacturers can now safely and easily incorporate Euro Black Currant to transform conventional food and beverage offerings into functional products that deliver powerful antioxidant benefits," said Constance Ostler, director of sales and marketing at Cyvex Nutrition. "Euro Black Currant is poised for tremendous market growth in the coming years, especially as consumer interest in antioxidant products remains strong."
