Cyvex's BioVin Extracts Now GRAS

IRVINE, Calif.Cyvex Nutritions BioVin® Full Spectrum Grape Extract and BioVin 20 Grape Skin Extract ingredients can now be incorporated in a wide range of foods and beverages, following self-affirmation of GRAS (generally recognized as safe) status. The company had an independent panel review the safety and toxicology data on the ingredients and their applicability for various applications.

Matt Phillips, president, Cyvex Nutrition, noted the companys BioVin has been incorporated successfully into some finished products already, including confectionery applications; he expects the new offerings to offer particular benefits in beverages, due to high solubility. He added, With this GRAS designation for our BioVin extracts, manufacturers can now transform conventional food and beverage offerings into functional products that deliver powerful antioxidant and heart health benefits.

The BioVin offerings are rich in a range of phytochemicals, including anthocyanidins, proanthocyanidins, trans-resveratrol and polyphenols; BioVin 20 contains no less than 20 percent polyphenols. The full spectrum grape extracts are manufactured using whole red wine grapes in their entirety, including stems, seed and skin.
