Eastman Files GRAS Notification for SAIB inAlcoholic Beverages

KINGSPORT, Tenn.--Eastman Chemical Company filed aGRAS (generally recognized as safe) Notification with the Food and DrugAdministration (FDA) for its SAIB (sucrose acetate isobutyrate). This filinginforms FDA of Eastman's determination, on the basis of scientific evidence,that SAIB may be considered GRAS when used as an emulsion stabilizer inflavoring oils used in alcoholic beverages at levels of up to 300 parts permillion (ppm) of the finished beverage. Confirmation of this filing (GRAS NoticeNo. 000104) appears on FDA's Web site (www.cfsan.fda.gov/~rdb/opa-gras.html).
