Echium Oil Gets Novel Food Status

DEN BOMMEL, The NetherlandsBioriginal Europe/Asia B.V. obtained Novel Food approval for its refined Echium Oil for use in food and dietary supplements marketed under Bioriginal's brand name in the European Union.

Bioriginal's refined Echium Oil provides an unique fatty acid composition being a combination of omega-3, omega-6 and omega-9 in natural form. The product can be applied as a plant-based alternative for fish oils since it contains a minimum of 12% Stearidonic Acid (SDA), the precursor of EPA. The oil remains neutral in taste and stable over time. Besides SDA, refined Echium Oil also contains the functional fatty acids Alpha-Linolenic Acid (ALA typically 33%) and Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA typically 12%).
