Faulty Processing Triggers Canned Pinto Bean Recall

WASHINGTONThe U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced La Preferida, Inc., is recalling 56,808 29-ounce cans of La Preferida Whole Pinto Beans because they may not have been fully processed, which could result in product contamination by spoilage organisms or by pathogens, which could lead to illness if consumed.

The recalled products were distributed to retailers nationwide between Jan. 7 and Feb. 6, 2013, and bear Pinto LP, Best by 01/03/2015 'Time' 3003" on the tops of the cans.

Earlier this month, problems with loose seams or seals triggered a nationwide recall of Chicken of the Sea and Bumble Bee Foods canned tuna fish products.
