FDA Halts Milk, Produce Imports From Japan

WASHINGTONThe U.S. Food an Drug Administration (FDA) has temporarily halted all imports of fresh fruits and vegetables, milk and milk products manufactured of produced in four Japanese prefectures that have been affected by radiation from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant..

The March 22 import alert was issued after Japanese officials confirmed the presence of radioactive iodine contamination five times the acceptable levels in dairy, fresh produce, and infant formula products  manufactured of produced from the Fukushima, Ibaraki, Tochigi and Gunma prefectures.

FDA will continue to flag all entries from Japan to determine whether they originated from the affected area and test all food and feed shipments from the affected area.
