Food-Safety Alert: Ground Beef Recalled In Hawaii Over E. coli

WASHINGTONHonolulu-based Higa Meat & Pork Market is recalling approximately 4,100 pounds of ground beef products that were distributed to foodservice establishments in and around Oahu because the meat may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, USDAs Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Oct.  22.

The recall involves 10-pound bags of "HIGA MARKET-GROUND BEEF BULK" packed one to six bags per carton/case. Each case bears the establishment number "EST. 12457M" inside the USDA mark of inspection, as well as the identifying case code number: "291." The products were produced Oct. 17, 2012, and distributed to restaurants in the Oahu area.
