Food-Safety Alert: Natures Recipe Dog Treats Recalled Over Salmonella

WASHINGTONNatures Recipe brand announced a nationwide recall of Natures Recipe® Oven Baked Biscuits with Real Chicken dog treats because they may be contaminated with Salmonella, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced Oct. 13. Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products.

The recall involves Natures Recipe Oven Baked Biscuits with Real Chicken sold in 19-ounce stand-up resealable pouches with best if used by dates" of Oct. 11 and Oct. 12, 2013. The dog treats were primarily sold to pet specialty retailers. No illnesses have been reported to date.

Earlier this year, Salmonella-tainted dry dog food was the source of a multistate outbreak that sickened 14 people in nine states with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Infantis. Five people, including an infant, were hospitalized.
