WASHINGTONThe USDAs Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the re-chartering of the National Advisory Committee on Microbiological Criteria for Foods (NACMCF), which will provide impartial, scientific advice to federal food-safety agencies for use in the development of an integrated national food-safety systems approach from farm to final consumption to assure the safety of domestic, imported and exported foods.

The committee will meet approximately one or more times annually, and all meetings will be open to the public. Members will be chosen because of their expertise in microbiology, risk assessment, epidemiology, public health, food science and other relevant disciplines. The charter is being changed to add one individual affiliated with a consumer group to be appointed to the NACMCF as a representative member who will provide a consumer viewpoint to committee work and will not be required to have a scientific background. Non-government employee members will be appointed as non-salaried special government employees; the individual affiliated with a consumer group will serve as a representative.
