BREVARD, N.C.Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) and USDA Rural Development State Director John Cooper visited Gaia Herbs medicinal herb farm and facility as part of a celebration honoring $189,000 of grant funding to Gaia Herbs from USDAs Rural Development Office. The grant supported Gaia Herbs marketing efforts for two new echinacea products launched last fallQuick Defense and Whole Body Defense. The products stemmed from other research conducted by Gaia Herbs, enabled by a $2.2 million multi-year research grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), that discovered and validated a novel anti-inflammatory feature in the chemistry of echinacea roots.

In additional news, Gaia Herbs received the Corporation of the Year award from the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP). The 20-year-old organic herbal products grower and manufacturer was honored for its extraordinary commitment to the profession, as a champion of naturopathic and botanical medical education and research, and as a dedicated supporter of the naturopathic profession. This is the first time the award has been presented to an herbal supplements manufacturer.
