CLEVELAND—Ganeden Biotech, a manufacturer and marketer of probiotics, revealed that GanedenBC30 (Bacillus coagulans GBI-30, 6086) is now approved by the COFEPRIS (Comisión Federal para la Protección contra Riesgos Sanitarios: Federal Commission for Protection Against Health Risks); GanedenBC30’s digestive and immune benefits will now be obtainable in Mexico as an ingredient for food and beverage enrichment.

"There are many opportunities in Mexico for a probiotic such as GanedenBC30," said Laura Colin, Latin America business development manager of Ganeden Biotech. “Mexico’s government has instituted a number of health initiatives to promote better education regarding proper nutrition and healthier eating habits. The sale of junk food has been banned from schools, and television advertising of high-calorie foods and high-sugar content beverages has been restricted to specific hours. Mexicans are becoming increasingly health conscious, and are interested in functional foods and beverages," added Colin.

GanedenBC30® is a patented probiotic ingredient that can be found in more than 100 food, beverage and companion animal products throughout the world. GanedenBC30 is a spore-former which makes it stable and allows it remain viable through most manufacturing processes, three years of shelf life and the low pH of stomach acid. The efficacy of GanedenBC30 is backed by 18 published studies, including a  monograph published by USP earlier this month, showing digestive and immune support and an exceptional safety record with FDA GRAS (generally recognized as safe) status from the U.S.FDA. GanedenBC30 can be formulated into virtually any food and beverage product, and will not change the taste or texture profile.

“Mexico is a significant market within Latin America, where the population is already familiar with the benefits of probiotics", says Mike Bush, senior vice president of Ganeden Biotech. “The recently issued health initiatives provide a great deal of opportunity for probiotic innovation within the Mexican functional food and beverage industries; and we are eager to introduce the unique formulating capabilities of GanedenBC30."
