Gluten Free Baking Mixes Recalled

WASHINGTONHeartland Gourmet, LLC is recalling its gluten-free baking mixes because they may contain undeclared milk, announced the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The recall involves its Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix, marked with UPC code 7376967020171, identified by lot number 0023065 with a best buy date of December 2014 and distributed in March 2013, as well as lot number 0023007, having a best buy date of October 2014 and distributed February 2013.

Also recalled, Gluten Free Double Chocolate Cookie Mix, is marked with UPC 737697015306. Lot number 0012289 has a best buy date of October 2014 and was distributed in October 2012, lot number 0022317 with a best buy date of October 2014 and distributed in November 2012 and lot number 0012341 with a best buy date of January 2014 and distributed in December of 2012.

Gluten Free Pizza Crust Mix is also involved. It's marked with UPC code 737697020249, lot number 0073007 with a best buy date of  September 2014 and distributed in January of 2013. The gluten free mixes were distributed in Minnesota, Texas, Indiana, Connecticut, North Carolina, California and Colorado.

The recall was initiated after routine sample testing conducted by Canada showed products with "dairy-free" labels tested positive for milk. Further investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company's production and packaging processes.
