Ground Turmeric Recalled Over Excessive Lead Levels

WASHINGTONArcher Farms Ground Turmeric sold at Target stores nationwide is being recalled because of elevated levels of lead, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced April 15.

The recall involves 2.6-ounce glass bottles of Archer Farms Ground Turmeric distributed between June 2009 and February 2010 to retail stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin. The spice was produced by B&M Inc. of Mount Vernon, Mo. No other Archer Farms spices are affected.
