Int'l Supplement SPAM Ring Settles FTC Charges

A coordinated SPAM operation based in the United States, Canada and Australia has settled FTC for violating federal law by selling bogus hoodia-based weight-loss supplements via a Web site that drew visitor from SPAM emails. The settlement bars the company, Spears System Inc., from making unsubstantiated or false claims about dietary supplements, any further violations of he CAN-SPAM Act, and a fine of $29,000 to represent monies gained from the illegal operation.
