While there is evidence linking greater intake of soy protein to heart health, it is not conclusive, according to The New York Times. FDA issued a health claim in 1999 linking soy protein to a reduced risk of heart disease and lower levels of cholesterol; however, more recent studies have not shown soy alone can significantly impact cholesterol, and that it may be best consumed with other heart healthy ingredients such as fiber.
