Kemin Cites Safety Data on Lutein

DES MOINES, IowaKemin Foodsannounced the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and an international foodingredient safety panel independently took action to further affirm the safetyof free lutein and zeaxanthin for human consumption.

The Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA), thescientific advisory body to the Codex Alimentarius Commission, set an acceptabledaily intake for lutein and zeaxanthin alone or in combination at up to 2 mg/kgof body weight. The daily intake level was put forth in the report from theJECFA 63rd Meeting, held in Geneva, Switzerland, in June 2004.

Kemin also announced it received a letter of non-objectionfrom FDA regarding the food and beverage categories for which KeminsFloraGLO® Lutein (www.FloraGLOlutein.com) has achieved GRAS (generallyrecognized as safe) status.
