DES MOINES, IowaKemin announced its Des Moines manufacturing facility has achieved Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) 22000 certification as recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).

Understanding the importance of high consumer confidence and the impact of the FDAs Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), the company spent the past three years investing human and financial capital necessary to certify the facility. The certification covers the manufacturing of food ingredients used in further processing and is designed to deliver greater confidence in food, fewer health risks, lower auditing costs, improved protection for brands and improved supply chain management.

Other facilities with FSSC 22000 certification include the companys plant extraction facility in Des Moines, as well as all food ingredients manufactured in its facility in Herentals, Belgium. In September 2010, Kemin was the first company to receive the FAMI QS/International Safe Feed/Safe Food (I-SF/SF) certificate for its facility in Des Moines.

FSSC 22000 is a complete independent food-safety certification system developed by the nonprofit Foundation for Food Safety Certification. It is the only ISO- and process-based food-safety management system standard recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and is supported by the Confederation of the Food and Drink Industries of the European Union (CIAA) and the American Groceries Manufacturing Association (GMA). The certification is intended to ensure the continuous improvement in food-safety management systems and delivery of safe food to consumers worldwide.
