BELOIT, Wis.In a random household sample of self-identified food bar consumers, Kerry (www.kerry.com) made several findings about the nature of organic food bar consumers. Consumers are looking for higher levels of protein in organic food bars for sustained energy; organic fruits, nuts and fiber are the most desired ingredients in organic food bars. They also found soy is the preferred protein source; and consumers are looking for reduced fat offerings more often than for reduced sugar and calories offerings. A majority of consumers are willing to pay 5- to 10-percent more for organic food bars. Consumers are also increasingly looking for heart-healthy offerings in the category.
