Linguagens AMP Product to Obtain GRAS Status

CRANBURY, N.J.--Linguagen Corp received a letter from the Food andDrug Administration (FDA) indicating the agency does not have any questionsregarding the GRAS (generally recognized as safe) status for its bitter blockeradenosine monophosphate (AMP). AMP is a patented, natural compound used in foodand beverage products and in oral pharmaceuticals to help block bittertastes. This safety status is the green light for AMP to be used as aflavor enhancer in chewing gum, coffee and tea, snack foods, soups and sugar andsalt substitutes, according to the company.

Receiving acknowledgement from the FDA on our GRAS status is an importantmilestone for Linguagen, which reiterates what weve always known--AMP is asafe compound that will be useful in making better tasting, more healthyproducts for the marketplace, said Shawn Marcell, Linguagen chief operationsofficer. As more and more food and beverage manufacturers continue toseek ways to improve the taste of their products without adding excess salt orsugar, were confident our GRAS status will help make their decision eveneasier.
