Listeria Outbreak Linked to Hog Head Cheese

ATLANTAA new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed the Listeria outbreak that sickened 14 and killed two people last year is linked to Vernons hog  head cheese sold at grocery stores in Louisiana.

In August 2010, the Prairieville, La.-based company recalled more than 500,000 pounds of hog head cheese and sausage after Listeria monocytogenes isolates were detected in a product sample. It was the second time in three years the company recalled products because of Listeria. In 2007, the company recalled 290 pounds of hog head cheese products that may have been contaminated with Listeria.
