Listeria Prompts Herring Recall in NY

WASHINGTONMS Fish Corp., a Brooklyn, N.Y., firm, is recalling Ossies Schmaltz Herring because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced Jan. 12.

The recall involves 12-ounce plastic containers of Ossies Schmaltz Herring coded 2/0311 distributed throughout New York State. The problem was discovered after routine sampling by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors and subsequent analysis of the product found it tested positive for Listeria.
