Listeria Prompts Onion Recall in 8 States, Canada

WASHINGTONGills Onions LLC, based in Oxnard, Calif., is recalling diced and slivered red and yellow onions, and diced celery and onion mix distributed in eight states and Canada because they may be contaminated by Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced July 18.

The recall involves 7-ounce containers of Diced Yellow Onions, 7-ounce containers of Diced Red Onions, 5-ounce containers of Slivered Yellow Sweet Onions, 5-ounce containers of Slivered Red Onions, 7-ounce containers of Diced Celery and Onion, and 19-ounce containers of Diced Celery and Onion. The products were shipped between July 2 and 4, 2012, to retailers in California, Montana, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Washington and Canada.
