Listeria Prompts Organic Alfalfa Sprout Recall

WASHINGTONSpecialty Farms LLC, Bridgeport, Conn., is recalling Specialty Farms brand Organic Alfalfa Sprouts Blend and Organic Sprout Salad products with because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, announced the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The problem was detected after a laboratory analysis revealed positive results from retail samples.
The recall involves 4-ounce plastic containers of Specialty Farms Organic Alfalfa Sprouts Blend and Specialty Farms Organic Sprout Salad with best if sold by dates of Aug. 3, 2010. The company also is recalling Stop & Shop brand Natures Promise Organic Alfalfa Sprouts 4-ounce containers and 8-ounce bags, and Natures Promise Organic Zesty Sprouts 4-ounce containers with best if sold by dates of Aug. 1, 2010.
The products were distributed to retail stores in Connecticut, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.
