Listeria Prompts Sprouts Recall in U.S., Canada

WASHINGTONSprouters Northwest, based in Kent, Wash., is recalling 1,953 pounds of alfalfa, clover, brocco sandwich sprouts and spicy sprouts sold in the United States and Canada because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced Jan. 28.

The recalled products were distributed from Jan. 10 to Jan. 18, 2013, to retail and foodservice establishments in Alaska, Oregon, Washington and British Columbia, Canada under the Sprouters Northwest brand.

The recall involves 5-ounce containers of clover sprouts with best buy dates of Jan. 26, 2013 and UPC code 0 33383 70235 3; 1-pound bags of clover sprouts with best buy dates of Jan. 26, 2013 and UPC code 0 79566 12351 5; 2-pound trays of clover sprouts with best buy dates of Jan. 26, 2013 and UPC code 0 79566 12351 5; 4-ounce containers of clover sprouts with best buy dates of Jan. 26, 2013 and UPC code 8 15098 00201 6; 4-ounce containers of brocco sandwich sprouts with best buy dates of Jan. 26, 2013 and UPC code 8 15098 00028 9; 4-ounce containers of spicy sprouts with best buy dates of Jan. 26, 2013 and UPC code 8 15098 00202 3; 3-ounce containers of alfalfa sprouts with best buy dates of Jan. 31, 2013 and UPC code 8 15098 00108; and 3-ounce containers of alfalfa sprouts with best buy dates of Jan. 31, 2013 and UPC code 8 51042 00402 6.
